Should students expect the government to help pay for college expenses? – Part 3

In the vast majority of cases the government already helps pay for a college education. It would be hard to argue that student loans and grants most of which are at least regulated by government agencies are utilized by most college students.

I personally believe that high school students who are outstanding academically should be afforded full free college government financed scholarships. An investment in our brightest and best students is necessary if we wish to remain the leader of the free world.

The more educated a person is statistics have shown the more income they will generate in a lifetime. Hence more taxes they will pay. Therefore an automatic yield on the investment.

Children who come from a well educated family usually tend to pursue higher education themselves. So affording one person a chance at college could break a cycle of not furthering ones education for generations.

I personally believe that everyone after high school should be required to participate in a two year national service program. This could be military service, peace corps, or any community volunteer organization. This would be mandatory of all Americans who wished to receive in return a government financed four year college education.

The more educated and trained our citizens the more they are capable of contributing to society in a variety of ways.
